Teatro San Carlo
Via San Carlo, 98, Napoli, 80132 NA, Italia
Did you know in Naples we’ve got the most ancient theatre in the world? Far from the La Scala in Milan or the Operà in Paris, the Opera House in Naples exceeds them all in antiquity and beauty. It has been built in 1737 commissioned by King Carlo of Bourbons, who raised the most beautiful theatre in Europe in just 8 months (considered that our mums took 9 months to make these masterpieces!)
1379 seats, golden furniture, breath-taking ceilings, a royal box of extreme beauty, perfect sound and musicians from all around the world; and, despite it was destroyed by a fire, King Ferdinando IV rebuilt it even more “rock”!
Nowadays you can trigger the artists and clap like crazy, but back in time just the king was allowed to. In the royal box there is a mirror system indeed for the audience to follow the king clapping or whistling.
All the most important people from past and present passed through here, and this is the reason why you have to go absolutely, as we know how popular you are (we are sure you are…)
