Do you want to see such an incredible place, where you could meet unheard people? The “Cappella Sansevero” is a real chemistry, something in between the mystical and profane.
A legend surrounding its construction suggests a murder committed in 1590 by an aristocrat, a little bit “cuckolded”, who had his wife and her lover killed. To redeem her son’s soul, his mum built what today is well known as Cappella Sansevero. We promise this is not a “Murder, She Wrote” episode (for those of you who don’t know, this was a series that our grannies used to watch about a lovely old detective lady, who used to solve the worst murders cases in a very classy way). Two centuries later, the Prince of Sansevero started spending lots of money to make this the greatest family church, “ The Great Gatsby” style.
In there the “Cristo Velato” is definitely part of the mainstream: this marble sculpture looks absolutely real, and it is considered one of the greatest sculptural masterpieces in the world. Rumour has it that the Prince – who used to posture like a scientist – transformed fabric into marble himself!
Absolutely not to be missed are the “anatomical machinery”: two skeletons on which it has been remodelled the whole human cardiovascular system.
It’s still a mystery how they made them, as the cardiovascular system had not been studied yet at the time. It is said that the Prince murdered two of his servants first, and then he injected a substance in their bodies, solidifying them… something like slasher movies, Tarantino style!
