You are strolling around San Lorenzo area, you see some buildings in the distance… some normal buildings, which don’t have any courtyard in the middle… but anything less than a Roman amphitheatre… POOWW!!
At the time this semi-circular building was a proper stadium, with 5.000 seats, where people used to sing, act and party hard.
In between the many artists, or alleged artists, you could count Nerone, the Roman Imperator, who was used to entertain the audience with super boring and endless performances. It was like your granny, when she thinks she’s a real singer, and force you to listen to her singing along the best hits from Fifties!
You wouldn’t believe it, but if you want to visit this theatre, which has more then one entrance, you have to enter one of the very famous Neapolitan “basso” (ancient traditional people’s houses on the ground floor). Here you will need to go through a trapdoor underneath the bed to get into a damp basement, which at the time was used both as a wine cellar and as the building entrance. The worst mafia’s bunkers are nothing comparing to that!!
