We were trying to think what’s the best wat to start this review and, unless there is a professor nearby, we don’t feel we can do the paraphrase of a “poetry” like Il Caracol.
Close by the sea, with a panoramic terrace set in the tuff rock, a romantic place, very well designed, with blu velvet armchairs, a skylight which looks like a shell and the sound of the sea whch accompanies every dish out of the kitchen: concrete, amazing, tasty.
Chef Angelo Carannante’s cuisine enhance every product with his minimal touch, and will make yu fall in love with the local products. The kitchen, and the front of house and the canteen, are a perfect team that will make your night perfect and – unless you are there with you loveforever – you might fall in love with the chef or the sommelier.
A la carte menu or tasting menus ( from 60 to 80 euros with 4 or six dishes), products are always seasonal and fresh. Starting with bubblies and a mini aperitif with mini-buns with marinated anchovies, pasta beans and mussles balls, Neapolitan tarallo, tacos with homemade mayonese and fresh clams jambalaya, little pizzas with tomatoes, fish croquettes and squid with its ink cappuccino with potatoes foam served in a cup, oyster, passion fruit and fennel and chickling vetch and prawns with tomatoes and saffron salsa… you to let you know the level of the food you need to expect very soon.
The ultimate will always be “Caponata a modo mio”: crumbled and reconstructed biscuit, yellow and red tomatoes, aubergine, olives, cappers, burrata foundation and a dust of caviar.
As main dish, Genovese: candele spezzate with fish broth and onions, tuna tartare, lemon, cocoa and a scent of roast sauce; raviolo all’acqua pazza or risotto with bufala butter, anchovies, tarallo and cinnamon.
Then: seared lobster with tomatoes chutney sause, aubergine and mozzarella soup. Brothed sea bass with veggies, or a very fresh tuna.
This is just an example, the menu changes every season and the catch of the day, but what stays is the spherical babà and the little pastries, which – at the end of your dinner – will make you feel accomplished and in harmony with the universe.
No, we really mean it, thank you!
